Sizzling Garlic Prawns on the Plancha

🍤 Sizzling Garlic Prawns on the Plancha

One of the best things about cooking on a plancha is its incredible versatility. From vegetables and steaks to seafood, the smooth cooking surface delivers consistent heat and beautiful caramelisation without food slipping through the grill. It's especially well suited to shellfish, as the plancha's even heat distribution cooks prawns quickly while keeping them tender and juicy.

This simple garlic prawn recipe is perfect for summer evenings, garden parties or as a delicious starter before a barbecue feast. With just a handful of fresh ingredients, you'll have a flavour-packed dish ready in minutes.

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 500g raw king prawns, peeled and deveined (tails on if preferred)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes (optional)
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

To serve

  • Lemon wedges
  • Crusty bread
  • Mixed leaf salad
  • Garlic aioli (optional)

🧑🍳 Method

  1. Prepare the prawns. Pat the prawns dry with kitchen paper and place them in a bowl.
  2. Make the marinade. Combine the olive oil, garlic, chilli flakes (if using), lemon zest, parsley, salt and pepper. Pour over the prawns and toss well to coat. Leave to marinate for 15–20 minutes.
  3. Preheat the plancha. Heat your outdoor plancha over medium-high heat until the cooking surface is hot. A properly heated plancha helps the prawns cook quickly while developing light caramelisation.
  4. Cook the prawns. Place the prawns onto the hot plancha in a single layer. Cook for approximately 2–3 minutes per side, depending on their size, until they turn pink and opaque.
  5. Finish with lemon. Squeeze over the fresh lemon juice during the final minute of cooking and gently toss the prawns to coat.
  6. Serve immediately. Transfer the prawns to a serving platter, sprinkle with extra chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges, crusty bread and garlic aioli if desired.

💡 Tips for Perfect Garlic Prawns

  • Avoid overcooking the prawns—they only need a few minutes to stay juicy and tender.
  • Make sure the plancha is fully preheated before adding the prawns.
  • Cook in a single layer so each prawn browns evenly.
  • Fresh garlic and lemon make all the difference to the final flavour.
